 Yoga

  • WHAT IS YOGA?

    The word yoga translates from Sanskrit to English as “union.” Uniting mind and body.

    Most people practicing yoga today are engaged in “asana”, combining physical postures and breath.. However, there are eight limbs of the yoga practice and “asana” is just one of those limbs.

  • WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF A YOGA ASANA PRACTICE?

    With regular practice, you will notice your body getting stronger and more flexible; you will feel more grounded and have better posture. On a mental level you will notice improved focus, the ability to stay calm and maintain relaxed breathing.

  • WHAT CLASS SHOULD I TRY?

    It is a good idea to try different classes to get an idea of the style of yoga that is best for you. Vinyasa Warrior Flow tends to be more physically demanding and challenging. Slow Flow Yoga falls in the middle while Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga classes are less physically challenging.

  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?

    Water, yoga mat, yoga blanket or throw blanket folded up, 2 yoga blocks

    *For restorative and yin, all of the above plus 2 small throw pillows and one bed pillow or bolster

  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASS?

    Athletic clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict your movement.

  • WHAT ABOUT EATING OR DRINKING BEFORE CLASS?

    It is a good idea to come to class hydrated and drink plenty of water after yoga class. In most yoga traditions, drinking water during class is not recommended. However, if you’re thirsty, take small sips. Try not to eat a full meal at least 2 hours before class.

  • WHAT IF I HAVE PAIN AND A PREVIOUS INJURY?

    Please talk to Laura about any existing physical conditions and concerns you have about them prior to class.

    *Yoga can help many people with chronic pain by regaining balance in the body between strength and flexibility, movement and awareness. If you are under a doctor’s care for an acute situation, please be sure to discuss taking yoga classes with him or her.

  • IF I’M PREGNANT, CAN I PRACTICE YOGA?

    Yoga can be very beneficial during pregnancy. Please tell Laura if you know you are pregnant prior to class. Make sure to drink plenty of water and take bathroom breaks whenever needed. Please speak to your doctor first before attending a class.

  • DO YOU OFFER ANY IN-PERSON CLASSES AND SERVICES?

    Our physical wellness space was closed in May 2020. We will remain online and virtual for the foreseeable future. However, outdoor classes and private one-on-one and small group sessions can be held in person.

Reiki

  • WHAT IS REIKI ENERGY HEALING?

    It is an ancient hands-on holistic healing art that improves your flow of energy by removing blocks and stagnation in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure.

    Improving the flow of energy in and around the body can enable relaxation, reduce pain, ease anxiety and tension, and aid the healing process on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

  • WHAT IS DISTANCE REIKI ENERGY HEALING?

    By using an ancient distance Reiki symbol, the practitioner can clear blockages from someone's past, as well as perform reiki on someone who is not physically present.

    Distance Reiki works according to an ancient principle called the Hermetic Law of Similarity, which holds that we are all connected, as we are all made up of energy and part of a larger whole. Distance Reiki is one of many ways to link to and channel life force energy for the healing benefit of others. Life force energy can be channeled across time and space.

  • HOW DO I PREPARE BEFORE A SESSION?

    Relax, reflect and take mindful breaths. Make yourself comfortable lying down. Be sure you are wearing loose and breathable clothes.

    A supportive guide who helps clients reach their wellness goals and feel their best through personalized, one-on-one encouragement around finding the foods and lifestyle practices that work best for them.

  • WHAT MAKES A HEALTH COACH UNIQUE?

    Health Coaches provide guidance and accountability – from exercise and nutrition to relationships, career, and spirituality – for their clients as they embark on a journey toward optimal holistic health and wellness.

  • WHAT IS INTEGRATIVE NUTRITION?

    Integrative nutrition connects the dots between mental and emotional wellness and your actions. It’s how clients eat, how they think about food and their body, and how they show up for themselves every day (and how that impacts their food choices). It is the practice of creating balance between what is on and off your physical plate.

  • WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HEALTH COACH AND A NUTRITIONIST?

    Nutritionists focus on the impact of dietary changes primarily. Health coaches provide nutritional guidance while also addressing other factors that impact health such as self-care practices, rest, mindset and emotions.
